An intimate Lakeland Wedding

 An quaint Lakeland wedding

When Heidi contacted me to discuss the possibility of me capturing her wedding in a pretty quaint Lakeland village, I immediately hoped that she would choose me for the job. I love photographing small intimate weddings; friendly, relaxed with the focus on time with loved ones. Heidi lived in London but wanted to choose a wedding photographer that she knew would capture the wedding how she wanted; as well as being closer to the venue in The Lakes. We hit it off straight away and discussed the details of the day. It was a mid-week wedding, and would be a small intimate affair. The ceremony taking place at a pretty little church in a village called Mungrisedale, followed by a drinks reception at the local pub and a wedding breakfast in the village hall.

The night before

The wedding was to take place on my birthday, and because it was in the Lakes, I decided to stay somewhere closer to the venue; a) because I wanted to be certain I would have no travel issues, and b) because it was my birthday the following day and, being a mum of two boys, I fancied the idea of stopping somewhere on my own for the evening for a bit of peace and quiet!

After googling a few options, I came across the The Old Rectory B&B, it was £40 for the night, and quite honestly the best £40 I have ever spent. As I drove up the long gravel driveway, I thought I had taken a wrong turn. This amazing house appeared in front of me, a typical Lakeland house the was just beautiful and the owners, Ann Cartmel and her husband, couldn’t have been more welcoming. That evening I sat at the large kitchen table with them over a glass of red wine for a couple of hours and got to know the history of the house. A family home for many, many years, it now needed to pay for itself and as their four children had moved away, the decided to open it as a guest house. I would highly recommend a visit and hope to return one day.

The bedroom I stayed in. The bathroom was huge!

The view from my bedroom window. There was a wooden swing at the end of the garden that the children used to play on.

The Wedding Day…and my birthday!

The Lakeland wedding was on our side and the sun was shining for most of the day. I hadn’t been into the village of Mungrisedale until the morning of the wedding and, well..it was just stunning. A typical Lakeland scene awaited me.

The excitement builds as we head to the church.

Part two to follow soon.
