Sunny Lancashire! Our gorgeous slice of the world located in the northwest of England, offers a vast array of family-friendly activities and attractions for a fun day out. As a family with two boys, we have visited a lot of great places locally, and further afield, and here are some popular family days including some of our absolute faves:

Blackpool Pleasure Beach – This iconic amusement park in Blackpool is perfect for a full day of thrilling rides, shows, and entertainment suitable for all ages. Don’t miss the famous roller coasters like “The Big One” and “Icon.” If your children are thrill seekers this will be right up your street! For a similar experiment further afield, try Alton Towers Resort and swim park. Our family favourite is the swim park here, with it’s crazy slides and many different pools.

Blackpool Tower – Visit the Blackpool Tower to experience a variety of attractions, including the Tower Eye with panoramic views, the Tower Dungeon for a spooky adventure, and the Tower Circus with its fantastic performances. Do you dare take a walk on the SKYWALK (glass floor) with a drop of 380ft below your feet?

Sandcastle Waterpark – Located in Blackpool, Sandcastle Waterpark is the UK’s largest indoor waterpark, featuring numerous slides, wave pools, and water play areas that will delight the whole family. As a parent of a tween and a teen, I can vouch for this waterpark as a great day out. It’s fabulous family fun and you won’t be disappointed.

Martin Mere Wetland Centre – This nature reserve near Ormskirk offers a great opportunity to observe a wide range of birds and wildlife. The kids will love the adventure playgrounds and feeding the ducks.

Ribble Steam Railway: Located in Preston, this heritage railway offers scenic rides on vintage steam trains, as well as railway-themed play areas and a museum.

Brockholes Nature Reserve – Situated near Preston, this floating nature reserve provides a unique outdoor experience with walking trails, wildlife spotting, and a fantastic adventure playground for the little ones. The playground is amazing and is perfect for all ages to find some fun on. They have a lovely little cafe too, serving amazing ice cream!

Hesketh Farm Park – This working farm park near Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales is an excellent place for children to get close to farm animals, enjoy tractor rides, and play in the indoor and outdoor play areas. It’s one of the best farms we have visited with our boys, super clean and packed with activities including watching baby chicks hatch. It’s also on the doorstep to our favourite trail walk at Bolton Abbey which is a must if you are nearby.

Happy Mount Park: In Morecambe, this park features beautiful gardens, a splash park, miniature railway, and various play areas, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing family day out.

East Lancashire Railway: This heritage railway runs between Bury and Rawtenstall, offering scenic rides on vintage trains and hosting special events like Thomas the Tank Engine days. In fact, they have plenty of themed, seasonal family fun days out.

Beacon Fell Country Park: Explore the stunning countryside at Beacon Fell with numerous walking trails, a picnic area, and a children’s play area.

Remember to check the operating hours and availability of attractions before you plan your family day out. Enjoy your time exploring the beautiful county of Lancashire!
