8 Powerful Reasons To Book A Newborn Photography Shoot (And Why The Results Will Make You Cry)

In the early days of parenthood, simply surviving the day without any major dramas (or poonamis) is a win, so the idea of getting yourselves out of the house for a newborn photography shoot might feel out of reach. But this period goes so quickly, you’ll wish you had something to show for it – other than 500 muslins and Wind The Bobbin Up permanently stuck in your head.

A newborn photography shoot with the right professional photographer is actually a relaxed and fun experience, and you leave with a beautiful memento of this special time in your life.

In my latest blog post, I’m sharing the reasons why my clients think newborn photography is 100% worth every penny – and why the results will make you emotional.

What Is Newborn Photography?

If you’ve never done it before, you might have questions and concerns. How long will a newborn session take? Is it stressful? What if my baby cries?

Let me answer some of those here.

Your shoot lasts around 4 hours, which gives us plenty of time to settle your tot, soothe your anxiety, and take beautiful pictures for you to cherish forever.

I’m an experienced newborn photographer, so you and your baby are in safe hands with me, and I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve to make everyone feel completely relaxed. Trust me on that one!

Please don’t worry about tears, nappy changes, or feeds – all of this is a natural part of the fun of a newborn shoot!

I absolutely love working with babies and I like to think this shines through in my work.  It’s an honour to capture these fleeting moments that will soon feel like a distant memory.

What Makes A Newborn Photography Shoot Worth Doing?

Here are eight reasons your professional newborn shoot is 100% worth it.

It’s actually a lovely experience (trust me!)

Coming into my studio is a chance to get out of the house, bond with your baby, and enjoy a really lovely day out. It feels like a special treat for all of you.

Karen, a regular customer of mine, said:

“Over and above her abilities as a fantastic photographer, Summer is a lovely lady – calm, friendly and able to put people totally at ease. I can honestly say the photo shoots were a pleasure rather than a stress, and I wouldn’t hesitate to use her again. Highly recommended.”

Create a lasting memory of fleeting moments

Whilst it feels all-consuming in the thick of it, these early weeks fly by in the grand scheme of parenthood.

So, your shoot is designed to capture these ‘blink-and-miss-them’ moments when they’re so tiny, document those cute expressions and teeny tiny fingers and toes, and look back for years to come on how their mini personalities were already forming.

You leave with a timeless record of this short time in your lives – concrete evidence you made it through in one piece!

You can book it before your due date

This helps you plan and get organised before the dreaded baby brain takes over!

We’ll schedule it within the first few weeks after your due date then confirm an exact date and time that suits you once your teeny one has been born.

Siblings are welcome

Another great thing about your newborn photography shoot is that siblings are welcome!

Feel free to bring along siblings to join in and pose with your baby, and you can get in on the action too with a gorgeous baby and family portrait.

You get to actually finish a hot drink

Aside from how beautiful your pictures will be, let’s not overlook the magic of having both hands free to finish a hot drink at leisure!

This is one of the huge perks of coming to my photography studio. It’s a cosy space where you really can make yourself at home, have a coffee (or several!) and chat amid the frantic early days of parent life.

One of my customers, Gemma, said:

“I went to Summer’s studio with my 5 week old baby (very easy to find!) and was welcomed with such warmth. Summer was amazing with my baby and she made me feel at ease throughout our session.”

Meanwhile, Henrietta said:

“The whole shoot was wonderful, Summer made us feel super relaxed which isn’t easy as a first time mum with a 7 day old! The photos were just perfect.”

And don’t worry – you’ll receive a guide full of tips on how to prepare for your shoot when you book.

Document things you miss at home

Let’s be real: who has the patience or energy to take photos that capture your baby’s beauty at the end of the day when they finally curl up and nod off?

If you’re anything like I was, you’re too exhausted, hungry, and mentally drained to do anything other than flop into bed yourself.

I have a variety of props and years of experience to capture the angles and timings you might miss at home, as well as suggesting creative ways we can produce beautiful keepsakes.

I’ll wrap them up in cost blankets for the perfect sleepy shot, settle them into a beautiful basket for an angelic moment, and go through several settings to create a personalised gallery you can treasure.

This way, you can always remember them and share memories with your partner, children, friends and family.

Take a look at some examples of my newborn baby photography – you’re welcome to tell me exactly what you’d like or just leave me to it, whichever works best for you.

Have an excuse to display pictures

After your newborn photoshoot, I’ll edit your baby photos and create an online gallery for you to view. I’ll invite you back into the studio and we’ll sit down together to look through the shots so you can decide which packages and products you’d like to choose.

Together, we’ll discuss how you plan to display the pictures at home, and you can see samples to help you make your mind up.

Viewing and ordering is once again an enjoyable and calm experience which can feel pretty emotional!

A previous customer, Kate, said: “The final results made me cry, so nice! Thank you.”

Most of us forget to print the thousands of pictures on our phones, so this is the perfect excuse to create your new favourite wall art of portrait photography starring your tiny little model.

Be proud to show off professional images

Have you ever tried to print off a picture only for the quality to be too poor to scale it up?

Professional photographers have the equipment and technology to produce high quality images worthy of a prime slot in your home – no more dark or pixellated phone shots!

Choose from colour images or black and white in a variety of sizes and options – your favourite photograph will be perfectly composed, whether it’s in a beautiful small frame to gift to grandparents or a huge canvas taking pride of place in your living room.

Ready to book in or give the gift of newborn memories to a loved one?

I’d definitely recommend getting it in the diary asap if you’re interested, because spots can book up quickly and it’s one less thing to think about when you’re sleep-deprived and cluster-feeding back home from hospital.

I’m Summer, your baby-whispering Lancashire newborn photographer.

People often ask me how I manage to capture newborn babies looking so serene and quite honestly, I wish I’d had this skill when my own children were small!

But joking aside, please rest assured you don’t need to worry about anything – your baby’s first shoot will be a warm and welcoming experience for everyone and it’s completely normal for babies to cry, need changing, or stop for cuddles!

Your little one is in safe hands, and not only will you treasure the end result for years to come, but you’ll remember it as a special experience you had (and those memorable coffees you actually finished without having to reheat!) in the midst of the baby bubble.
